Broadband SLED Lasers

Box Optronics Broadband SLED Lasers are Superluminescent diodes (SLDs) that emit light with a short coherence length and high brightness, making them ideal for applications such as spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), fiber optic gyroscopes (FOG), optical sensing, Biomedical imaging systems. Box Optronics offers butterfly-packaged SLDs in NIR wavelength ranges, as well as versions optimized for use in SD-OCT systems. SLD benchtop sources are also available, which are an all-in-one solution that integrates the SLD, controller, and TEC in one unit with either a single mode or polarization-maintaining FC/APC output.

Box Optronics provide many options in Broadband SLED Lasers, we have 830nm 3mW 5mW Superluminescent diodes (SLDs), 850nm 5mW 7mW SLED laser diode with SM 5/125 Corning HI780 or equivalent or PM fiber, 1310nm 0.2mW 0.3mW 1mW 2mW Broadband SLDs and 1550nm 1mW 10mW, we can also customize the wavelength and output power according to your requirement.

Each  Broadband SLED Lasers device is built into a 14-pin butterfly package with an integrated thermoelectric cooler (TEC) and thermistor to ensure output stability. The output is coupled into an SM or PM fiber terminated with a 2.0 mm narrow key FC/APC connector. Please note that optical feedback can diminish the output power or damage the SLD. We do not recommend using these SLDs with components that are prone to back reflections, such as FC/PC connectors.

  • The 830nm Broadband SLED Superluminescent Diodes that operates in a true inherent superluminescent mode. This superluminescent property generates broader band at higher drive currents in contrast to other conventional SLED which are ASE-based, here high drive tends to give narrower band. Its low coherence reduces Rayleigh backscattering noise. Coupled with high power and large spectral width, it offsets photoreceiver noise and improves spatial resolution (in OCT) and measurand sensitivity (in sensors). The SLED is available in 14-pin butterfly package. It is compliance with the requirements of Bellcore Document GR-468-CORE.
