The basic characteristics and application fields of optical fiber temperature measurement

2021-05-25
Optical fiber sensing technology is a new sensing technology accompanying the development of optical fiber and optical fiber communication technology. It is the fastest growing high-tech application technology in the world since the mid-1970s. There are two main types of optical fiber sensing technology currently on the market. One uses optical fiber directly as a sensor, and the other uses a grating-based sensor. Fiber optic sensors are fundamentally different from electrical-based sensors. Optical fiber sensors use light as the carrier of sensitive information and optical fibers as the medium for transmitting sensitive information. It is widely used for its unique characteristics.
Basic Features
1. No electromagnetic interference, corrosion resistance
2. Passive real-time monitoring, electrical insulation, good explosion-proof
3. Small size, light weight, flexible
4. High sensitivity and long service life
5. Long transmission distance and easy maintenance
Application field
Generally, there are the following fields according to the characteristics of optical fiber sensors:
1. In the electromagnetic/radio frequency environment, the traditional temperature measurement method is seriously interfered and cannot work normally;
2. There are particularly high requirements for accuracy, sensitivity, or life, stability/reliability, etc.;
3. The installation environment is narrow and has special requirements for the size of the sensor;
4. Inflammable, explosive and corrosive environment, there are special requirements for safety/corrosion resistance.
5. In harsh environments such as lightning strikes and the wild.
6. Places where energy supply is inconvenient at the test site.
