ASE broadband light source principle and application

2025-08-20

ASE broadband light source works based on the principle of amplified spontaneous emission. When pump light is injected into doped optical fiber (such as erbium-doped optical fiber), the number of particles is inverted. Particles at high energy levels spontaneously transition back to low energy levels, releasing photons, which propagate in the optical fiber and induce more stimulated radiation, thereby achieving light amplification.

Its output spectrum is wide and can cover C band, L band or wider range. In the field of optical fiber sensing, with its wide spectrum characteristics, it can be used in distributed fiber grating sensing systems to accurately sense changes in physical quantities such as temperature and stress. In optical fiber communications, it provides broadband optical signals for wavelength division multiplexing systems to facilitate multi-channel data transmission. In the medical field, it can provide light sources for optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, assisting doctors in clearly observing the internal structure of biological tissues.

Bocos Optoelectronics can provide 980nm, 1030nm, 1064nm, 1100nm, C-band C++, L band, L+, L++, 2000nm ASE broadband light sources.
